Udon Thani is known as the gateway to Laos, North Vietnam and South China. During the Vietnam War this town became of key importance as the American and Thai air forces had a support center here. Udon Thani is famous for its close proximity to the Ban Chiang archeological site, which has revealed that it was here 5000 years ago that Thailand´s first Bronze Age civilization existed.
