The most famous cathedral in Kyiv is the Cathedral of Saint Sophia also known as the Hagia Sophia of Kyiv. The Cathedral of Saint Sophia which was founded in the eleventh century and largely rebuilt during the seventeenth and eighteenth century never fails to evoke admiration as an outstanding masterpiece of monumental art. The Cathedral of Saint Sophia is an attraction bound to be of great interest to travelers who are interested in learning a bit about the political history, culture, and spirituality of the Ukraine.

The interior of the Cathedral of Saint Sophia has remained practically unaltered. The original walls with twelve cruciform piers that articulate the interior space into five aisles as well as the pillars and arches of the cloisters have remained. There are thirteen cupolas with drums that have been preserved. The main drum illuminates the space under the central cupola. There are several mosiacs and fresco paintings worth a look that date from the eleventh century. The Cathedral of Saint Sophia is an attraction that is not to be missed.
