The Chernobyl nuclear disaster that took place in the 1980’s is one that many of us will never forget. For those who want to get a better idea of what it was like before the accident as well as what it is like now, years later, the Chernobyl Museum is a must see. The building located on Kharyvyi Pereulok Street is close to the Podil and the Kontraktova Ploshka (blue line) metro station although it is not very visible. Outside of the building are some emergency vehicles from the time of the disaster.

Upon entering the building you will have an option to hire an English speaking guide. If you do not know Russian, this is advisable because everything inside is in Russian. There are numerous multimedia displays throughout the museum that offer visitors a chance to see for themselves the events before, during and after the accident. Some of the information offered is quite shocking. At the end of the tour a movie is shown that portrays Chernobyl and the surrounding cities and villages as they are today, ghost towns.
