Inarguably, the UAE has been affected by the discovery of oil in the country. The museum is housed within the Al Fahidi Fort, build around 1787 in order to protect Dubai from outside invaders. In 1971 the fort was revamped in order to become a museum. The displays include a number of life-sized dioramas of what life was like in Dubai. The displays feature traditional houses, farms, markets, and other aspects of life at the time. There are also artifacts from around the country that date back as far as 3,000 B.C.
