Fyvie castle is open to public viewing between March and October each year with the surrounding gardens open all year round. Fyvie was originally used as a royal stronghold, and made up a chain of castles used as fortresses spread across old Scotland. After the Battle of Otterburn in 1390 the castle was by five successive families which brought the castle to its current glory and is possibly one of the best examples of Baronial architecture in Scotland.

The castle structure is based on the myth that each of the five towers was built by one of the families occupying the castle. There are many ghosts which haunt the castle and add an air of excitement to the place when visiting. The grounds are a great place to go for a relaxing walk in with its wonderfully designed garden and loch. There is also a number of other features in the gardens which are well worth discovering.
