Tolquhon Castle is a wonderful castle to go and visit if you find you have a couple of free hours when staying in the Aberdeen. The structure was originally built by the Forbes family in the 15th century. The castle has beautiful surrounding countryside which are well worth taking a stroll around, however make sure you were appropriate foot wear as in wet weather the ground can become very muddy.

The 15th century tower was enlarged by William Forbes between the years 1584 and 1589. The castle also boosts a large mansion which has a courtyard in the middle. The castle is particularly famous for its beautifully sculptured and ornate gatehouse. The gatehouse is well worth taking time to see if you are able to make the trip. Any castle enthusiast has to count Tolquhon castle as a must see on their list of things to do while in Scotland
