St Machars is a wonderful piece of architecture located right in the centre of Aberdeen city. The cathedral is owned by the Church of Scotland and was built between the fourteenth and sixteenth century. St Machars boasts a heraldic ceiling which is unique to Scotland. Other points of interest within the Cathedral include the impressive stained glass windows as well an organ by Willis installed between 1892 and 1897.

The Cathedral still holds services every Sunday and is easily accessible by foot from Union Street, one of Aberdeen’s busiest shopping streets. The gardens around the Cathedral are also worth taking a closer look at with their interest gravestones and benches for relaxing on. The great thing about the cathedral is just how easily one can get to it. If you are out shopping there is nowhere nicer in Aberdeen to escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy city streets.
