      Elgin Cathedral remains Details

Elgin Cathedral is the wonderful remains of a beautiful 13th century cathedral. The buildings are particularly majestic and well worth taking the time to go and visit if you are staying in Aberdeen for a couple of days. The cathedral was almost destroyed in 1390 when it was attacked by Alexander Steward. He is the infamous wolf of Badenoch. If you do and visit the site make sure you climb the north west tower and enjoy the amazing views of the surrounding countryside.

The Bishops home is located at Spynie Palace, which is two miles north of Elgin. If visiting during wet weather make sure to wear some strong waterproof footwear as the ground can become soft and muddy, actually any tourist should make it a general rule to always wear strong footwear. Apart from the towers the Cathedral site is easily accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
