The Kilchurn Castle is one of the oldest museums that are based in the beautiful town of Dalmally. Just like the many Scottish castles, the Kilchurn castle also tells the story of the changing times that its inhabitants lived through. The castle was built in the 15th century, 1450, by the first Lord of Glenorchy, Sir Colin Campbell. The castle was initially just a five storey tower house with a courtyard that was defended by an outer wall, but it was later, in the 1500, extended by an additional range and a hall ton the south side of the castle. Further buildings were raised in the following centuries.

One can get to the castle by boat from Lochawe only during the summer months. There is another access to the castle by land from the east of the castle. The castle can be best appreciated when walking around the headlands on which it stands. It has different view from different sides.
