This tower is, without doubt, the one of the most outstanding attractions located in the town of Oban. It was built in the 19th century, 1897, as a development project by a local banker called John Stuart McCaig. His aim was to create work for the local stonemasons and also a lasting monument that would commemorate the McCaig family. The tower hosts a beautiful view across the Oban Bay to the cold Atlantic Ocean; this can be done by just climbing up the steep road that leads to the tower. The McCaig tower is well worth the effort of visiting, when one is faced with the spectacular view and landscape that it offers.
The garden of the tower is also well taken care of, and beautifully maintained. This is a great place for one to escape from the busyness of Oban town to experience a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
