What you need to know before traveling to Bridgend

Located in the heart of South Wales, the county borough of Bridgend covers an area of 285 square kilometers and has a total population of around 130,000. The main towns in the county are Bridgend, Maesteg, and the seaside town of Porthcawl. The town of Bridgend, situated midway between Cardiff and Swansea, lies on the River Ogmore, and the River Ewenny also passes to the south of the town. Aside from its wide range of shops, hotels and restaurants, visitors can see the old stone bridge after which the town is named, built around 1425, the old police station and magistrates court, built in 1880, and the Wyndham Arms which dates back to the 15th century, when it was an important coaching inn in the area. Maesteg, which is dominated by its spectacular Town Hall, is an ancient market town whose origins can be traced back to the establishment of iron making in the late 1820's.
