County Antrim Details

County Antrim is a county found in the province of Ulster, in the northeast of the country of Ireland. Part of the city of Belfast is found in this province. One of the major County Antrim attractions consists of the Glens of Antrim, valleys that have been classified as being of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Many of the towns found in this area have amazing historical structures; indeed, walking through the glens will not just put you in contact with nature, but will also immerse you in age-old County Antrim culture. One of the most peculiar County Antrim sights is the Giants Causeway, declared a National Nature Reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the Causeway is composed of roughly 40,000 adjacent columns of basalt created by a volcanic eruption. Tourists also visit County Antrim to check out the beaches and nightlife in the resort town of Portrush; shopping can be done here too. And lets not forget one of the driving forces behind tourism in County Antrim; the castles, towers and fortresses. There is the Carrickfergus Castle, as well as the majestic and famous Dunluce Castle, among many others. Other things to do in County Antrim include visiting the oldest licensed distillery in the world, in Bushmills, and the area of Slemish, said to have been where St. Patrick spent some of his time.
