For those who love gardens, Belfast has beautiful and interesting Botanic Gardens. They are on Stranmillis Road and are located in the backyard of Queen’s University. They are easy to reach. They are also worth the visit for the pleasure and relaxation such a garden supplies.

Laid out in 1827, the Botanic Gardens feature unique elements. The centerpiece is the Palm house. It was built between 1839 and 1852 to a design of Charles Lanyon. It features a birdcage dome of curved glass and cast iron. The 19th century Tropical Ravine is a rather unique structure. The design was by Charles Mckimn. It is a large, red-brick, greenhouse. Inside, you wander along raised walkways, looking down at a sea of tropical plants. These include banana plants, ferns, lilies and orchids. Outside of the buildings, the Botanic Gardens are a visual orgasm of colors and scents. Here, you can relax under shady trees or stroll along curving paths past wrought iron benches and past blossoms and grassy lawns. Take the right path, and you will end up on the banks of the River Lagan.
