Sometimes people refer to the area around Glenariff as “Little Switzerland.” This is a region of lush valleys and rugged hills. If you enjoy the great outdoors, it is an ideal place to take the family. One of the most travelled areas is the Glenariff Forest Park.

The Glenariff Forest Park consists of some 2,300 acres. The park has a visitor centre. It has several exhibits on display about the wildlife in the region as well as forestry practices. It also can provide information on the miles of hiking and walking trails. From the centre, it is only a short one-mile hike to see a waterfall. This is one of several within the boundaries of the Gelnariff Forest Park. The main valley can lead you to the village of Glenariff and the Red Bay. There are small loughs you can swim in along the trails as well as excellent spots to have a picnic. Bring a lunch, a swimsuit and enjoy some of the marvelous views of the Gelnariff River.
