One of the sights you need to visit in Northern Ireland is Bangor Abbey. This is a centuries old religious structure. St. Comgall established the Abbey in 558 AD in Bangor. Another saint also has close ties with the Abbey, St. Columbanus. The Abbey of today features nothing from the earliest dates. Instead, it has architectural elements from the 15th to the 19th centuries.

Bangor Abbey was once a major center of learning. It trained missionaries to go back into the world and ignite the Christian faith. Malachy Wall, beside the Old Gate Lodge, is an early remnant. The ancient tower dates back to the 15th century. The steeple, in an unusual octagonal shape, was constructed during the late 17th century. The major architectural style and construction, however, is from the period 1830 to 1840. Inside, you can gaze upon the mural by Kenneth Webb. He depicts the Ascending Christ. Take time to wander through the churchyard. Here, you will see a memorial stone erected for the surgeon of the Titanic.
