Visitors to the United Kingdom know that the area is well known for its many ancient castles, offering tourists a taste of what life was in the influential middle ages. However, many of these castles now lay in ruins and can be hard to appreciate for some who are unable to conceive of what the structures would have been like in their majestic heyday. For such tourists, there is Highcliffe Castle in Bournemouth.
Highcliffe Castle is a unique offering among England’s castles in that it stands today fully intact and is able to be explored in its entirety from the gatehouses to the interior rooms, lavishly furnished. The reason for this is that the old castle ruins were largely destroyed by fire in the 1960's and in the 1990's, a project was brought underway to rebuild the castle in a perfectly preserved replica fashion. The end result is this fascinating attraction that gives tourists a new perspective on what the country’s history has to offer.
