Battle is a pretty little town that was named for the Battle of Hastings. It is located in East Sussex county of the United Kingdom. This historic battle left behind the Abbey of St. Martin, which was built by William the Conqueror in 1095. Today, the ruins of the Abbey are an attraction most visitors to Battle want to see. The battleground where the war was fought is also well worth the time spent visiting it. Both the Abbey and the battleground are under the jurisdiction of the English Heritage group.
