If there’s one thing that Brighton is known for, it’s its dedication to preserving the arts for future generations to come. Even the artistic traditions of days past remain alive, as seen in the area’s expansive artist’s quarter, and their many contemporary galleries. The University of Sussex in Brighton is home to one offering, however, that is truly unique, even among the rest of Brighton’s artistic and cultural offerings.
The Barlow Collection of Chinese Art is one of the world’s largest collections of Chinese art, with works representing many thousands of years of the country’s long history and artistic traditions. The collection, once privately owned, was recently given to the University as a gift, and since then has been on open display to the public, and is frequently used as a teaching tool for university art courses. If you’re in the area and think you’ve seen everything Brighton has to offer, be sure to stop by the Barlow Collection of Chinese Art.
