The Scottish Ballet is one of the most important and respected arts organisations in Scotland. The Scottish Ballet is dedicated to bringing the highest standards of ballet and dance to audiences in Scotland and further a field. The Ballet was founded by Peter Darrell and Elizabeth West in 1957. The Company moved to Glasgow in 1969 and has been an institution in the city ever since.

The company is well known for producing not only classical ballet but also contemporary dance and new interpretations of full-length classic ballets. Many of these modern interpretations are far more accessible and attractive to younger modern audiences. Education activities that are carried out by the Scottish Ballet are designed with the intention of bringing ballet to more and more people who would not otherwise have access to it.
