The Glasgow central mosque was built in 1983 and opened in 1984. It is located on the River Clyde’s south bank, and occupies a four acre site surrounded by gardens and other buildings. The site will soon house a new Islamic centre which will give information and public outreach initiatives to the greater Glasgow community. It is hoped that the new centre will provide a social, cultural and community facility to be used by Glasgow’s Islamic community as well as to increase interaction and understanding with other religious communities in the city of Glasgow.

The mosque is in a classical style, with the courtyard built in the Arabesque style. There is a long façade of arched windows and the gardens are highly regarded. One detail to note is the glass entrance door, which has an impressive floral design etched on the glass. There is also a Minaret on the corner of the courtyard.
