Glasgow Cathedral is one of the best known and grandest churches in all of Scotland. It is commonly called the High Kirk of Glasgow and is affiliated with the Church of Scotland. It is situated close to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary just outside the city centre and there is an alleged connection with this location and Saint Mungo who is the patron saint of the city of Glasgow. In fact his tomb is located in the lower part of the church, close to one of the altars.

The Cathedral is an important example of Gothic architecture and is one of the largest Gothic buildings in the city of Glasgow. It was one of the important churches in Scotland during the medieval period and although originally Catholic, it successfully survived through the Reformation and into the modern era, without damage, but with a change of denomination. Technically, the church has not been a cathedral since 1690.
