The Glasgow Caledonian University began its life in 1875 when it was established as a small college of just one hundred and ten students. It is now one of Scotland’s largest universities with a student population approaching twenty thousand. The original Queen’s college in Glasgow was initially intended as a cookery school and after merging with the West End School of Cookery became the pre-eminent institution for cookery in the city. It has since vastly increased the range of subjects and faculties that are available to students so that it now offers the full range of subjects and learning opportunities that one would expect from a modern university.

The roots of the university are traditionally Health, Science and Business, but it now offers many other subjects. The campus is located in the Cowcaddens area of the city but there are also other campuses, known as Park Campus in the West End and Courthbrae campus.
