The Glasgow school of Art is located in Garnethill in Glasgow. The School began as the Glasgow Government School of Design in 1845 and adopted its present name in 1853. It was originally housed at 12 Ingram Street and it moved to the McLellan Galleries in 1869. However, in 1897 the first bricks were set down for the purpose built building that it now occupies. This building was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and contains two separate buildings, the first being completed in 1899, while the second followed ten years later, being completed in 1909. The Glasgow School of Art is now recognised as one of the most prestigious design institutions in the world.

Today’s school occupies ten buildings with the new digital design studio being housed in the House for an Art Lover in Bellahouston Park which is on the South side of the city. If you are visiting Glasgow it is a worth wile visit.
