Gloucestershire is a county in southwestern England; the capital of the county is the city of Gloucester. A great deal of tourism in Gloucestershire is generated by the presence of historically and architecturally significant monuments in the capital. Some of the more popular Gloucestershire sights in the city include the Gloucester Cathedral, dating to the 600's; the Cathedral is where King Edward II of England was buried and it has been used in the Harry Potter films. Dedicate a weekend in Gloucestershire to relaxing in Gloucester’s spa and do some shopping in Gloucestershire at the Eastgate Shopping Center. When you’re visiting Gloucestershire, you should also head to Berkeley Castle, where King Edward II was imprisoned before his death in 1327, as well as Sudeley Castle, the burial place of one of the wives of Henry VIII. To experience Gloucestershire culture up close, you should take a walk through the Cotswold Hills, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; there are a number of picturesque small villages scattered through the Cotswolds which definitely deserve visiting.
