Trafalgar Square in London

The square was designed in the Neo-classical style by John Nash in the 1820s. The buildings reflect a unified architectural style that adds to the square’s charm. In the center of the square there is the famous Nelson’s Column monument commemorating the Battle of Trafalgar and admiral Horatio Nelson. The four bronze lions at its base and the surrounding memorial fountains designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens are impressive and well-recognized around the world. There are also four plinths of which three hold statues of famous British historical figures. By staying in one of the cheap hotels near Trafalgar Square, it’s easy to walk to all of the square sites. In December the square is decorated with a traditional Christmas tree donated by Norway each year.
