Had an enjoyable stay. turned out to be much better than expected for the price. en suite bathroom was downright huge - much better than those i have experienced in similar london budget hotels. there was a full bathtub that was long and downright luxurious. considering the location right near train stations, the hotel and the surrounding streets were very quiet and peaceful. a surprising oasis in a bustling neighborhood.
Some neglected maintenance was rather apparent - cracked window glass, bathroom tiles askew, broken shower curtain rod, ceiling stains in bedroom. no phone in room to contact front desk without going to reception desk in another building.

we booked the excelsior in london in april 4th to the 5th well in advance, when we arrived we were put in the merville which was a differant hotel at the side of the excelsior, haveing stayed there last year we were discusted to find out we had been moved here and it was more like a hostel then a hotel and very run down thats the reason why we booked the excelsior instead, the only reason we booked excelsior was because it said on the internet that it had just been refurbished,we feel like we were tricked on the internet and forced to stay in the merville because it was stay there or no where this is false advertiseing showing excelsior then moveing us to the merville,we asked for two doubles we got two trebles with no room to move with no plasma tv which was advertised on the internet in the excelsior,no coffee or tea makeing in the room, the showers were disgusting on every floor, nobody had one there were that bad, there was no breakfast just toast and to top it all we were robbed,we were told the reception was 24 hours and someone would look after the cases in the reception, we complained to the hotel and got no satisfaction so i had to go to the police when we got back who are looking into the matter.as you can see the weekend was ruined and i payed £130 for a hotel that i did'nt want to stay in in the first place,

The location was perfect for our purposes which was a convenient one night stay between travel arrangements. the room was clean and well suited for an overnight.
The long, narrow, stair case to the top floor room was difficult with heavy bags.
