St Pancras of London

There are three main sites to see in St. Pancras ; The church, the train station, and the British Library. The British Library is the national library of the UK and is among the most important research libraries in the world. The National Lending Library for Science is here, as well as the British Institute of Recorded Sound. The Library was originally all kept in the reading room at the British Museum, but outgrew that and had to fid a new home. St. Pancras Church was constructed from 1819 to 1822 and has been long established with generations of parishioners. Built in the Greek revival style, travelers come from all over the world to view the four caryatids based on the draped female figures found on the temples of the Erechtheum in Athens, Greece. Originally the statues were too tall to fit under the roof and have to have their mid sections cut out! The caryatids guard the entrance to the crypt which was opened and used as an air raid shelter during both world wars. The train station is located near Kings Cross, which is less formal than St. Pancras and more functional. St. Pancras train station is much more ornate and a great place to take photos of one of the older train stations in London.
