Remember, remember the fifth of November. This is the evening when the whole country marks an important occasion in the nations history. The failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605 is remembered on this day and is marked by fireworks and bonfires. People traditionally eat toffee apples apples coated in toffee and rich Bonfire Toffee and also play games such as Apple Bobbing.
Bonfire Night is celebrated throughout England, with famous fireworks displays in London at Clapham Common, Victoria Park, Alexandra Palace and Ravenscourt Park. Traditionally an effigy of Spanish mercenary Guido Fawkes, who was prevented from lighting the dynamite that would blow up the Houses of Parliament, is placed atop a bonfire to signify the narrow victory over terrorist threats.
