Ideally suited for onward travel to London and the East of England, the London Southend Airport (SEN) is situated in Essex, to the east of Central London. The London SEN is experienced in handling all types of aircraft from jets to cargo aircraft. Moreover, since it is not slot-constrained, the arrivals and departures are more swift and uncomplicated. To access from the city center, you can take the A127 east and then follow the signs. London Southend Airport is 18 miles from Junction 29 of the M25 along the A127. You can also reach the airport by rail by taking the C2C trains that run from London Liverpool or Fenchurch Street. It takes around 30-45 minutes from the center of London to reach the Southend airport. Since 1994, Regional Airports Limited has privately owned the London Southend Airport.
The Airport is one of the largest employment sites in Southend with a strength of around 1300 people. Interestingly, the airport also has a number of flying clubs for light aircraft and helicopters and offers courses leading to qualification for a Private Pilot's Licence. Or you can simply take the trial lesson to satisfy your flying urge! Way back in 1980's, London Southend Airport also had the distinction of being a popular tourist airport, taking passengers on the very first package holidays to Spain. For the benefit of public, parking at the airport is free of cost.
