The town of Machynlleth is in the county of Gwynedd in Wales, in the United Kingdom. This compact, attractive community was the home of the Welsh parliament in the 15th century, and in 1950 was a candidate for the modern Welsh capital. Over the past few years it has become the “green” capital of Wales, and a favorite tourist destination. Discount hotels in Machynlleth are close to transportation links to both beaches and mountains. On the wide main street, Heol Maengwyn, there is a busy market. Here you can also see a clock that was erected in 1873 by the Marquess of Londonderry to commemorate his son’s birthday.

The 15th century parliament House is a modest looking building in which you can learn the tragic story of Welsh hero Owain Glyndwr. Across from the Parliament House a path leads to Plas Machynlleth, the elegant 17th century mansion that became the home of the Marquess of Londonderry. Set amidst beautifully landscaped grounds, the house now holds the Celtica Museum, a center of Celtic culture. The Museum of Modern Art, Wales is in Y Tabernacl, a lovely old chapel that has been converted into a cultural center. Every August the museum hosts the Gwyl Machynlleth Festival of Music and Theatre. Check our listings at EasyToBook.com for information on cheap hotels in Machynlleth.
