Home to the Liverpool Football Club, Anfield Stadium might not be around for tourists to visit for much longer. The current owners of the Stadium have plans in place to replace it with a new Stanley Park Stadium sometime in 2008. This has been a decision met with much controversy as some consider Anfield Stadium to be an integral part of Liverpool history, acting as the sight of many of the classic victories of the Liverpool Football Club.
Visitors today can stop in and witness a game, as well as the many key points that the Stadium can boast of, such as the flagpole that’s actually the mast of an old British battleship, the SS Great Eastern and the wrought iron gates with their famed inscription, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. Even if you’re bringing along the family and not all of them are terribly keen on sports, there are plenty of nearby attractions to keep them interested.
