Craigmiller is one of the best preserved medieval castles in the whole of Scotland. Steeped in medieval character, construction of the castle began back in the 15th century. Over 250 years the company was used as the comfortable residence for the Scottish hierarchy. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and pastureland the castle is a wonderful place to walk around and enjoy a relaxing day at. Over the past 500 years the castle has been an integral part of Edinburgh history.
The castle was originally constructed as an L-shape tower house in the early 15th Century and was greatly expanded over the following two hundred years. The castle still retains much of its original charm. Wedding ceremonies are still held in the Great Hall and up to 60 people can be accommodated for. Two trees that were planted hundreds of years ago stand at the entrance to the castle. Both trees were originally thought to provide wood for bows and arrows.
