Located just outside of Edinburgh City, Tantallon Castel is dramatically set on the edge of cliffs overlooking Bass Rock. Four many years this castle was the stronghold for the Douglas clan. The castle boasts earthwork defences and a huge 50 foot high wall built back in the 14th century. This castle offered formidable defences to any would be attackers. While now a ruin the castle still offers valuable glimpses into what life would have been like for a noble family.

The grounds surrounding the castle are well worth exploring with stunning views and plenty of clean Scottish air. Refreshments can got at the visitor centre on the grounds and depending on what season you decide to visit you might be able to enjoy the wild flowers which grow around the castle grounds. There is also a replica cannon at the castle which originally would have been used of protect the castle from attackers.
