Hotels in Tomintoul
In the Moray Council area of Scotland, the town of Tomintoul is named for the Gaelic phrase meaning Hillock of the Barn. The town claims to be the village in the Scottish Highlands with the highest altitude, but there are towns in other areas of Scotland that are higher than Tomintoul’s 345 meter location. The small village had just 322 inhabitants in 2001, though it had closer to 2,000 people living there in the mid 19th century.Although the village was designed in 1775, today the small town is is focused around the central square, which was refurbished in 1860. Chances are that your EasyToBook.com hotel will be near the main square. There is a small museum on the square as well that will give you some basic history on the village. The village is also a part of the Whisky Trail, putting it in league with larger villages such as Dufftown and Marypark. Film buffs may recognize the town as the location where the 2004 film One Last Chance was filmed.
