North Lanarkshire covers one of the largest council areas in Scotland and is situated to the east of the city of Glasgow. The main towns in the region are Motherwell, Wishaw, Coatbridge and Cumbernauld, but the area also incorporates some of the residential suburbs of Glasgow. An experience for the whole family awaits visitors to The Time Capsule in Coatbridge. At this fun-packed pool and leisure center, not only is there an ice skating rink which is subject to snowstorms, but here you can witness an erupting volcano and rocket launches, or swim through tropical storms and dodge a serpent which sprays water. Summerlee Industrial Museum, also in Coatbridge, is based around the site of the 19th century Summerlee Ironworks. Here you can explore the re-created addit mine and miners’ cottages, experiencing the cramped underground conditions that the miners had to work in and seeing how they lived from the 1860's up until the 1960's. For a more sedate excursion from your hotel, you could wander around Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell, taking part in sailing and a variety of other water sports, birdwatching and horseriding.
