    Daventry Details

Daventry is a small, historic market town which lies just west of Northampton, in the county of Northamptonshire in central England. A pretty and sleepy little town, it has a small shopping centre with hotels, restaurants and typically English pubs, and still holds regular markets. On the edge of the town, you will find the popular Daventry Country Park and reservoir, an excellent spot for pike fishing. The town’s Holy Cross Church is the only 18th century town church in the county and is constructed of the local ironstone. The Moot Hall, traditionally a local meeting or assembly building, is also constructed from ironstone and, since it was built in 1769, has been used as a town council building, a women’s prison, a town museum and a tourist information office. It is located right next to the traditional Plume of Feathers Inn. The town offers a range of discount hotels, and can secure affordable accommodation for your stay. With Northampton, Banbury, Rugby and Birmingham, England’s second city, all close by, you will not be short of things to do and see during your vacation. The famous Santa Pod International Raceway, the home of drag racing, is in nearby Wellingborough and offers a great place for an exciting day out. A short drive from your hotel, will take you to Sulgrave, near Banbury, where you will find Sulgrave Manor, the home of George Washington’s ancestors. Dating back to Shakespeare’s times, it is a superb example of a modest manor house and visitors can enjoy a guided tour of the house and gardens. Billing Aquadrome, just outside Northampton, offers 235 acres of parklands and fishing lakes where visitors can experience the thrill of jet-skiing, or water lovers can hire a narrow boat and take a trip along the Grand Union Canal.
