Barnsley is a town in South Yorkshire that is very much a good old fashioned Yorkshire town, yet in other ways one that has embraced the 21st Century. There is plenty to do and see in Barnsley, no matter what you are interested in. Sheffield is only 12 miles away, so it is good to see this very cosmopolitan city with its fantastic retail centre. You should also try to see the Cannon Hall Museum, which is full of artefacts from days gone by, particularly when Barnsley was very grand in Victorian times. Wentworth Castle is nearby, and that has some truly sumptuous gardens. Or you can choose to embrace modern day life and go shopping in Barnsley’s Mall, which is pretty impressive.
