With winter highs averaging in the upper 60s, and summer highs averaging around the mid-80s, Los Angeles is a great destination any time of year. June through August are the driest months of the year, while the wettest are from January to March. However, for travelers, the infamous Santa Ana winds from October to March may be a source of irritation. Despite the improvements in air pollution, smog is still a problem for Los Angeles (especially during the hot summer months). In general, smog is worse the further inland you go.
Los Angeles, CA is definitely one of those places that are going to warrant more than one trip in order to do everything there is to do. • Always check the weather – Even though L.A. has warm summers, the beaches are often cooler in the afternoons. In addition, temperatures can vary significantly over short distances.
• Do NOT use the freeway – While the 405 might sound like a good idea at first, it should in fact be avoided at all costs. Whether it's midnight or rush hour, the 405 seems to constantly be jammed. Time to pull up the GPS and re-route.
• Plan an itinerary – L.A. is HUGE with a billion things to see and do. Without planning an itinerary that lets you see everything that is closely located, you could spend your entire trip traveling from one location to the next.
