Los Angeles International Airport, popularly known by its code LAX, is the main airport serving the metropolitan Los Angeles region. It is in southwestern Los Angeles, sixteen miles from downtown. This is the busiest airport in California, and one of the busiest in the United States. It has nine terminals, including the Tom Bradley International Terminal, and handles almost sixty million passengers a year. It occupies about 3,500 acres, or five square miles. LAX is connected to 87 domestic destinations, and 69 international destinations in North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
Los Angeles International Airport is connected to the city by Interstates 405 and 105 via an airport loop road. Several bus systems; local, rapid and express, also provide transit between the airport and the city. LACMTA buses can be boarded at the LAX City Bus Center in Parking Lot C. The FlyAway bus is an hourly shuttle service that stops at all of the LAX terminals. In the future there will be a Metro Rail line running to the airport.
