It’s hard to imagine one town could offer all of those different attractions, but Mammoth Lakes does. The town has over 7,000 residents and is just over 25 square miles in area. The area sits on the edge of a caldera, making it a geologically active region. The Long Valley Caldera means that the cheap Mammoth Lakes hotel you choose will likely be near some natural hot springs that you can enjoy.

Besides the hot springs, there are several batches of rhyolite domes that date back more than 1,000 years. Just 9 miles away is the nearly 8,000 foot high Mount Morrison. If you are in the area to ski, drive to the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and Minaret Summit. If you cross the summit you can reach the Ansel Adams Wilderness, where there is some truly breathtaking scenery.
