Formerly the San Diego Stadium, the Qualcomm Stadium gained its new name from the business that purchased the naming rights in 1997. The arena is notable for the wide assortment of sports played within its walls, from college football to professional football, baseball, and even local events.
Qualcomm Stadium has gained its reputation slowly over the years by playing host to some of the most exciting events in sports history, including the 1978 and 1992 Major League Baseball All Star Games, as well as the World Series in both 1984 and 1998, and professional football’s championship game, the Super Bowl, in 1988, 1998, and 2003. It’s also home to regular appearances by the local San Diego Chargers NFL team, and the Aztecs, the football team of San Diego State University.
