Alcatraz Island in the middle of San Francisco Bay was once a famous prison, which really is not the kind of place you would imagine tourists wanting to visit. However, Alcatraz is now one of the most popular attractions in all of San Francisco. Even the locals enjoy visiting the island and taking a tour of what is left of this historic old prison, also known as “The Rock” that is now under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service.
