Named for golf-loving United States President Warren G. Harding, the Harding Park Golf Course is a municipal course that belongs to the county and city of San Francisco. It is located in a beautiful setting, with the pristine Lake Merced framing three sides of the property. It is an older golf course, as it opened in 1925. Harding Park Golf Course received extensive renovations from early 2002 until late summer of 2003. The course was made larger, and both the clubhouse and the driving range were upgraded to comply with the standards of the PGA. Golf mavens who plan to visit the city will want to make use of the discount hotels in San Francisco near Harding Park Golf Course.
Now that Harding Park Golf Course has been modernized, it is hosting PGA tours and tournaments. Golfing tournaments were frequently held in this location from the 1930s until the 1960s. By that time, Harding Park Golf Course was so run down that the PGA refused to return. When the course was used for a parking lot while the U.S. Open was being played, it was realized that something needed to be done to restore Harding Park to its former glory.
