Hotels in South of Market are generally more affordable than in the prestigious districts north of Market Street, and this could be a great place to stay if you’re on a tighter budget. Good Hotel on the corner of 7th Street and Mission Street, for example, offers comfortable, vibrant lodging at a great price. Hotel Aida San Francisco, on nearby Market Street, offers some of the cheapest rooms in the city.
In the north-east of South of Market you can find several of San Francisco’s most popular attractions. Yerba Buena Gardens are located on Mission Street, opposite the contemporary Jewish Museum and next to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Business visitors may find it useful to know that the Moscone Center, San Francisco’s largest convention center, is located just behind Yerba Buena Gardens. In this area you can also visit the Metreon, an entertainment and retail complex. Walking north across Market Street will take you to Union Square, the third largest shopping area in the United States.
If you like chain hotels, you can rely on the presence of Best Western Plus Americania Hotel and Best Western Plus Carriage Inn to offer a standard quality of accommodation in South of Market. If you have a large budget, you can stay in the InterContinental Hotel, which is a four star hotel with a wellness center and a vast range of services. Parc 55 Wyndham Hotel is another four star option, located just across Market Street. Also situated on the other side of Market Street is Hotel Bijou, a slightly more affordable hotel.
Just across the north-eastern boundary of South of Market is the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, or MoMA. Staying in a South of Market hotel will place you within easy reach of this museum. From lower South of Market, a short walk north across Market Street leads to San Francisco City Hall and the San Francisco War Memorial.
