When the last of the Sutro family died in 1938, the Sutro estate was donated to the city of San Francisco, and the city deemed that the property would become Sutro Heights Park. The species of exotic trees and shrubs and some of the statues remained, but the rest of the garden had been quite neglected. Today, Sutro Heights Park is a wonderful place for a picnic, or just a quiet afternoon.
