Buena Vista Park is located in the Buena Vista Heights and Haight-Ashbury areas of San Francisco. It is the oldest park in the city, and has been on the same location since 1867, when it was known as Hill Park. The named was changed to Buena Vista Park in 1894. The park is fairly large with 37 acres, and sits atop a hill that is quite steep. Directly beneath this hill is the Sunset Tunnel, which is used by one of the city’s Muni Metro light rail lines.
A hike to the top of Buena Vista Park’s steep hill will reveal stunning views of downtown San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are two tennis courts as well as a playground in Buena Vista Park. There are many restaurants close to the park, so if you should work up an appetite climbing the park’s hill, you will have your choice of venues.
