Kezar Stadium is located in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers, both California NFL teams, claimed Kezar as their home stadium at one point in their history. Kezar Stadium has also been home to the MLL’s San Francisco Dragons. Both amateur as well as recreational sports leagues play at Kezar Stadium. Kezar Stadium has an interesting history. The estate of Mary Kezar gave the San Francisco Park Commission a gift of $100,000 with the stipulation that it be used to honor Ms. Kezer’s mother and uncles. A sum of $200,000 was appropriated by the city and county of San Francisco, and the stadium was built and dedicated in 1925.
Kezar Stadium was rebuilt starting in 1989, making the seating area seat only 10,000 people. Football is played here, as well as soccer, lacrosse, cricket, and women’s soccer. Kezar Stadium is used by several area high schools for their football games. The stadium has also been the scene of many concerts.
