Pier 39 in San Francisco is a smorgasbord of attractions and venues that will please visitors of all ages. Pier 39 has claimed that it is the third most popular tourist attraction in America. Some of the popular attractions do charge an admission fee, but most visitors consider the cost well worth it. The sea lions are always a favorite, but during the summer, they head south for sea lion breeding season, returning in August. There is a Venetian Carousel, which has the distinction of being the only carousel in America with paintings of its home city used as adornments. The Aquarium of the Bay is also an enjoyable attraction, where you see the marine creatures by traveling through an acrylic tunnel while standing on a moving walkway.

There are over a hundred and ten stores, twelve restaurants, street performers, live entertainment each day at the Entrance Plaza and the Crystal Geyser Stage, and a thrilling ride called the RocketBoat.
