San Francisco’s Twin Peaks are two hills that are virtually identical, and located almost in the direct center of the city. It is the second highest summit in the city at about 922 feet. The Twin Peaks are one stop that every visitor to the area should make an effort to see at least once. The view from the top is magnificent, and some say that these panoramic views are definitely the best in San Francisco. The bottom part of the Twin Peaks hills is residential, and is dotted with pretty homes that allow their residents to enjoy this view every single day.
Up at top of Twin Peaks you will also see several transmission towers as well as the Summit Reservoir. The reservoir, built in 1954, is the source of water for nearby residents and the fire department for the area. Birds at Twin Peaks also benefit from this body of water. There is much wildlife here, and this area is also a protected home for the Mission Blue Butterfly, an endangered species.
