The land on which Bonnet house is located and surrounding acreage is part of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation. When the home was donated to the Florida Trust in 1983 it was the largest charitable donation in the state up to that date.

Bonnet House was built by settler Hugh Taylor Birch’s daughter and her husband, Frederic Clay Bartlett, in 1920 on land given to them by Birch. The home was originally built as a winter retreat. Through many family tragedies and successes the décor and design of the house has undergone change. Today, visitors can tour this decorator showcase and experience a slice of life in Florida history.
